FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL WEBSITE

Students and parents can find information about the first day of school on our website at https://spencerbutte.4j.lane.edu/first-day-of-school-2020/

Our goal for the first day is to have all students log into their 4J email account and their 4J Canvas account, attend their first Advisory class at 12:20, and get prepared for Tuesday’s class schedule.

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

The Middle School weekly schedule is attached to this email. We will be covering what this schedule means with our students on the first day of school and we will go over it during our parent meeting next Thursday (https://zoom.us/j/6647667028?pwd=K3BpS1dQSExXSXJtWFFFb3BLaU9iQT09)

FIRST WEEK SCHEDULE

Our first week of school will follow a special schedule:

Monday (9/21) is a special day with just one class, Advisory, at 12:20 PM

Tuesday (9/22) is an “A” day; however, the morning applied learning classes will not meet in order for teachers to reach out to contact students and get them connected.

Wednesday (9/23) is a “B” day; however, the morning applied learning classes will not meet in order for teachers to reach out to contact students and get them connected.

Thursday (9/24) is a regular “A” day.

Friday (9/25) is a regular “B” day.

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES

With all the new technology, apps, passwords and everything else that comes with starting our 2020-2021 school year, it can also bring some technical difficulty. Here are a few puzzling tech issues we have encountered this week after speaking with some families, and some tips to try before you panic:

NOT ABLE TO LOG IN WITH USERNAME/PASSWORD:

Double check and make sure you aren’t adding the ‘@4j.lane.edu’ part of your students’ email. The user name is ONLY the number/letter combination.

If your student is a returning 7th/8th grade SBMS student, their password would be the same as they’ve been using in previous years, unless they changed it.

If your student is a new student, or a 6th grade student, their password is Sbms2020. This can be changed to a password of their choice after their first log in.

LOGGING INTO STUDENTVUE FOR THE FIRST TIME, WHICH CHOICES

If you are opening StudentVue for the first time, it will ask you which district/school you are attending, choose Eugene/4J District. It will also ask you for your username/password AS WELL as asking if you’re already activated. Your student’s account IS activated, so that’s the option to choose.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, if all else fails,…..REBOOT: sometimes simply turning the iPad off and back on again can ‘un-stick’ an issue. Especially after an update or after a new program has been installed.

EMAIL SUBJECTS

As a way to streamline our Spencer Butte communication this year with families, we will be using a School Wide Subject Line in our Emails.  It will always say SBMS-Class-Teacher.  We are hoping this will help you to prioritize to amount of SB emails you get from teachers and the school and make it easier to find emails.  If you have other suggestions for how we can make communication easier please let us know.

SCHOOL MATERIALS

We will be scheduling material pick-up days during the first week of October. During the material pickup days, families will come to school to pick up all materials and books that will needed for the trimester. Also, 7th and 8th grade students will get their yearbook. For 9th grade students who have moved onto high school, we will contact them and have a special pick-up day later in September.
