PARENTVUE VS. PARENT OBSERVER IN CANVAS

While conducting conferences we had a lot of questions regarding Canvas and ParentVue.  ParentVue is a place where you can view student schedules, attendance and final grade reports, while Canvas will mirror what your student sees with assignments, due dates, class announcements and other course content.

To sign up for a for a Parent Canvas Account go to: https://4j.instructure.com/login/canvas  In the upper right hand corner there is a button ‘Click Here for and Account’, your student will need to give you their ‘Pairing Code’, which can be found in their Canvas account under settings.  If you need help with this, please contact the front office.

WEDNESDAY ‘C’ DAY/FLEX DAY

While students may not have required classes in the afternoon as normal, they are required to do Asynchronous assignments that teachers have posted on Canvas for all 6 periods.  In the afternoon students have the opportunity to attend teacher office hours, optional extension activities, and/or may be invited to a re-learn session to help boost individual skills.  If your student has been invited to a re-learn session, you and your student will receive an email by Monday at 4pm.  Office Hours and re-learn zoom links can be accessed from the teacher’s Canvas class under ‘Office Hours’.

SEEKING GIFT CARD DONATIONS

In effort to support our students and local businesses, we are seeking donations of Gift Cards in $5 increments.  Due to constraints on spending we are not able to purchase these with school funds. Specifically, we would appreciate gift cards to Lox Stocks and Bagels, El Super Burrito, Dutch Bros, Safeway, and any other local business a middle school student may like.  If you would like to donate, please send via mail or call the office to arrange drop-off.  Thank you in advance for supporting our school and students.

SPENCER BUTTE LIBRARY CANVAS COURSE

The library’s page is now live. Here students will be able to search for books, place book holds, participate in weekly Share-Outs (book recommendations, book purchase requests, favorite pet picture, etc.), as well as other links to helpful resources. Email invites have been sent to each student, so please help remind them to accept so they will be able to access the course. Feel free to email Jenn Kotlarek, Library Specialist, with any questions (kotlarek@4j.lane.edu).  Please note, book hold pick-up dates will begin November 5th and occur on the first and third Thursdays of each month.
