MENTAL HEALTH

Mental wellness is a top priority for our Spencer Butte community.  It is important to realize that every person has individual needs regarding mental wellness.  The Lane County website has a Behavioral Health and Crisis Community Resource Directory for services in our area.  This list is updated frequently as information is received.  To access this list go to: https://www.lanecounty.org/cms/one.aspx?pageId=16826239 and go to ‘Important Resource – Please Read’.  If you would like the support of our counselor, Margaret Albright, or need support finding an outside counselor, please reach out via confidential voicemail 541-790-8342, office phone 541-790-8300 or email – albright_m@4j.lane.edu  If you indicated during conferences that you are in need of mental health support, please know that we are working through this list and will be reaching out soon.

WINTER FOOD DRIVE

We will still be conducting our Winter Food Drive!  Each year we hold a food drive to collect food and toiletries and then re-distribute them back to our Spencer Butte families.  This year, more than ever we need your support.  To follow the COVID-19 Guidelines, all non-monetary donations will be collected, cleaned and quarantined prior to re-distribution.  We will be collecting food through November 24th with collection bins out front each week day from 8am to 4pm.   In addition, we will have staffed days on Thursday 11/12 from 9am – 11am, Wednesday 11/18 from 11am – 1pm, Monday 11/23 from 4pm – 6pm, and Tuesday 11/24 from 4pm – 6pm.  Advisory classes will have the option to “compete” and see who can bring in the most food, so collection bins will be labeled by color and advisory class teacher names.  If you would like to donate money to go toward buying perishable items, you can mail it to us or contact the office to arrange a drop off time.

FOOD SUPPORT OVER WINTER BREAK

Please let us know if your family would like food support over winter break.  Call the school at 541-790-8300, or directly contact Heather (acharya_h@4j.lane.edu).  All information will be kept confidential.

TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES

School District 4J has created a page with resources, tips and tools to help students and parents connect with distance learning – https://www.4j.lane.edu/technology/tech-help/  There is also an opportunity to join a Middle School technology training session for on Thursday, Nov. 12th from 6:30pm – 7:30pm.  The Zoom link for this webinar is: https://zoom.us/j/96747888528?pwd=RVVteS80dnExNGVOSjNkSkd0U2FvQT09 Passcode: 141941

ATTENDANCE

Currently, unexcused absences are determined by there being ‘zero activity’ in synchronous Canvas class periods. “A” days would mean periods 0,1,2 and 3, and “B” days would be 0, 4, 5, and 6. In other words, if your student does not log in/turn in classwork for those class periods on that day, the computer will show them as being absent. On Wednesday, or the ‘C’ day, attendance is generated the same way, but for all class periods, 1 through 6.

YEARBOOK CLUB IS STARTING NOVEMBER 18TH!

Would you like to be a part of the most unique yearbook we have ever had here at Spencer Butte? If so, you are invited to join Advisor, Jenn Kotlarek, every Wednesday morning beginning Nov. 18th from 10:00-11:00am via Zoom. There are many roles that staff will serve this year, and everyone’s contribution will be helpful. I’ll begin with an overview of what we’ll be creating, how exactly we’ll accomplish this, and then give you a chance to ask questions. Feel free to just stop by and check it out! Here is the Zoom link (live Nov. 18th) https://zoom.us/j/96271541316?pwd=Z05zamtlNFhEbTM4Q3kvNzZob3kxQT09                                                     .

WEDNESDAY ‘C’ DAY/FLEX DAY

While students may not have required classes in the afternoon as normal, they are required to do Asynchronous assignments that teachers have posted on Canvas for all 6 periods.  In the afternoon students have the opportunity to attend in teacher office hours, optional extension activities, and/or may be invited to a re-learn session to help boost individual skills.  If your student has been invited to a re-learn session, you and your student will receive an email by Monday at 4pm.  Office Hours and re-learn zoom links can be accessed from the teacher’s Canvas class under ‘Office Hours’.  The optional extension activities along with Zoom links will be posted to your student’s Canvas account on Wednesday mornings.
