ACTIVITY NIGHT TONIGHT!

Our first dance/Activity Night of the year is tonight from 6:30pm to 8:30pm! Students have been picking up wristbands this week in the office for quicker entry, although you can still purchase admission at the door for $5. Remember, only Spencer Butte students are invited to attend this Activity Night and once in the building, students are required to remain inside until 8:30pm or until a parent/guardian comes to pick up. Due to current restrictions, we are not allowed to have parent volunteers or chaperones.

FOOD IN THE OFFICE

Recently, the number of students coming to the office and requesting food throughout the school day has been overwhelming. We understand a lot of students are responsible for bringing their own lunch and snacks, and may not be packing enough or anything at all. However, the office only has enough extra food on hand for emergent situations and are asking families to please remind your students to make sure they bring enough food with them each school day. As usual, if your family needs nutritional support at school, please reach out to Heather Acharya Acharya_h@4j.lane.edu

DONATIONS FOR KINDNESS PROJECTS

We are making some amazing projects for local agencies and are in need of some supplies.

We are looking for:

– inner rolls of paper towels

– inner rolls of toilet paper.

– gently used, snugger fitting, adult medium and large size t-shirts.

– any boxes, shoe box size or smaller

Donations can be dropped off at the main office by Thursday, April 14th. Thank you for your help supporting these projects.

OSAS/STATE TESTING

Oregon Middle School State Testing starts May 2nd. Every year, students in grades 3–8 and 11 complete state tests. These assessments are only one measure of a student’s academic success, but provide important information for students, parents and schools.  State tests were suspended in the 2019–20 school year and reduced in 2020–21 due to the pandemic and schools’ shift to distance learning. For the 2021–22 school year, state testing is expected to return to normal and students will complete the annual state tests this spring.

Parents may opt their student(s) out of State Testing by filling out the ODE State Testing opt out form which is located in the Spencer Butte Office, or see the attachment on this Spartan Update.

LANE COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH – GRIEF EVENT

On April 14th, Lane County Public Health will host a Community Resilience Forum at the Hilyard Community Center from 6:30-7:30.  Our community has been deeply impacted by suicide over the past few months and Lane County Public Health is deploying a variety of resources in the community to support those in need.  This forum will be an important element in that response to publicize this work and invite people into conversation on this topic.  At the forum there will be a panel of experts in grief, trauma, and suicide prevention share their perspectives on how community members can respond to and support the needs of their families and loved ones.  They will also discuss how people can get involved in proactive strategies to support community health and wellness in the future.

*Spanish and ASL interpreters will be available on site.

*The event will be recorded and can be viewed the following day on preventionlane.org.

*Child care will also be available.
