WHEN TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME
Students and staff must be excluded from the school setting if they are in the communicable stages of a school-restrictable disease. Symptoms that commonly indicate a communicable disease are listed below.
- FEVER: a measured temperature equal to or greater than 100.4°F orally. MAY RETURN AFTER fever-free for 24 hours without taking fever reducing medicine.
- VOMITING: at least 1 episode that is unexplained. MAY RETURN AFTER 48 hours after the last episode of vomiting OR after seen and cleared by a licensed healthcare provider.
- COUGH: persistent cough that is not yet diagnosed and cleared by a licensed healthcare provider OR any acute (non-chronic) cough illness that is frequent or severe enough to interfere with participation in usual school activities. MAY RETURN AFTER symptoms improve for 24 hours (no cough or cough well-controlled.)
- DIARRHEA: three or more watery or loose stools in 24 hours OR sudden onset of loose stools OR student unable to control bowel function when previously able. MAY RETURN AFTER 48 hours after diarrhea resolves OR after seen and cleared by a licensed healthcare provider or LPHA for specific diarrheal diagnoses.
EXCUSING STUDENT ABSENCES
Please contact the office by 9:00am any day that your student is absent. For an absence to be excused, parents/guardians must contact the school within 48 hours of the absence. The attendance line phone number is 541-790-8325 and is available to leave a message 24 hours a day.
PICTURE DAY
Picture day is on Friday, September 23rd. Picture order packets will be sent home with students early next week. We would like every student to have their picture taken, regardless of whether or not you are planning to order a picture package. If you are ordering, please make sure that your student brings the order form and money on picture day, or order ahead of time online.
TECHNOLOGY USE FORM
This week all students were issued a Macbook computer and charger. In addition, students brought home a ‘Responsible Use Policy Agreement’ form. Attached you will find the form, if you have not yet signed this, please do so and return to the school. Please make sure that your student is charging their computer each night so it is ready for learning the next day.
SCREEN TIME ON STUDENT LAPTOPS
Screen Time is a feature that allows parents to monitor and limit the amount of time their child spends using their Laptops. Please see the attached PDF for instructions on how to monitor and limit screen time.
OPEN HOUSE – SEPTEMBER 29TH
Open House will be held on Thursday, September 29th at 6:00pm. You will have the chance to follow your student’s schedules and meet the teachers. We encourage you to leave your children at home so that we can accommodate the parents and focus on the important issues of curriculum and instruction.
DAYTIME PULLOUTS
In the event of daytime appointments, we encourage parents to call the office in the morning or send a note with your child. We highly discourage calling minutes before you need to pick up your student, although we do acknowledge that there are sometimes special situations. Another reminder, anyone coming to pick up a student during school hours will need to come into the school office to sign the student in/out. This check-out procedure is essential for building security and student protection. If this person is not a parent/guardian and is not on your students’ contact list we will not release your student until a parent is contacted.
OPHELIA’S PLACE GIRLS GROUP
Spencer Butte is honored to be partnering with Ophelia’s Place, a non profit organization helping support girls in our community. They will be running three different Girl empowerment groups over the next three terms. This fall term we will be having a Young Amazing Women of Color group. If your student identifies as female and is a student of color and is interested in joining, please contact our school counselor, Margaret Albright at albright_m@4j.lane.edu or 541-790-8300. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
OPERATION SCHOOL BELL
Operation School Bell (Eugene Assistance League) provides new clothing, shoes and personal grooming products to children from families with need. There will be shopping events in late October/early November. If you would like to be considered for this program, please contact Hanna Sites in the front office – 541-790-8300 or sites_h@4j.lane.edu. In the meantime, The Assistance League of Eugene has a Gently Used Thrift Shop located at 1149 Willamette Street. Quality clothing, linens and household items as well as books and magazines are available for very affordable prices. The shop is open from 12:00pm to 4:00pm Tuesday through Saturday.
