OPEN HOUSE- THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 29th & SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1ST
Our Open House will be held on Thursday, September 29th at 6:00pm, and now an additional time on Saturday, October 1st. See attached flyer for specific dates and times. You will have the chance to follow your student’s schedules and meet the teachers. We encourage you to leave your children at home so that we can accommodate the parents and focus on the important issues of curriculum and instruction.
GET TO SCHOOL SAFELY
We encourage students to get to school using active transportation like walking, biking, skating and scooting, or shared transportation like busing and carpooling. It’s great for their health and the environment and makes the space around our school safer and less trafficked. Please take a look at the safety tip sheets for walking and biking on the regional Safe Routes to School website, and go over some of the safety tips with your student: https://www.eugenespringfieldsrts.org/local-resources Finally, when choosing a walking or biking route, try a route other than the one you would use to drive to school. Sidewalk riding on busy streets is dangerous because people driving don’t expect people biking on sidewalks. Quieter neighborhood streets may be a better option. Safe Routes to School has walking maps on their website, here: https://www.eugenespringfieldsrts.org/maps-for-biking-and-walking You can also connect with Safe Routes to School staff for route planning assistance at mazze_s@4j.lane.edu or 541-790-7539.
TEEN EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM
The City of Eugene Recreation Department has a new Teen Empowerment Program. This activity is Free and there is no registration is required. Please see attached flyer for details.
WHEN TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME
Students and staff must be excluded from the school setting if they are in the communicable stages of a school-restrictable disease. Symptoms that commonly indicate a communicable disease are listed below.
- FEVER: a measured temperature equal to or greater than 100.4°F orally. MAY RETURN AFTER fever-free for 24 hours without taking fever reducing medicine.
- VOMITING: at least 1 episode that is unexplained. MAY RETURN AFTER 48 hours after the last episode of vomiting OR after seen and cleared by a licensed healthcare provider.
- COUGH: persistent cough that is not yet diagnosed and cleared by a licensed healthcare provider OR any acute (non-chronic) cough illness that is frequent or severe enough to interfere with participation in usual school activities. MAY RETURN AFTER symptoms improve for 24 hours (no cough or cough well-controlled.)
- DIARRHEA: three or more watery or loose stools in 24 hours OR sudden onset of loose stools OR student unable to control bowel function when previously able. MAY RETURN AFTER 48 hours after diarrhea resolves OR after seen and cleared by a licensed healthcare provider or LPHA for specific diarrheal diagnoses.
DAYTIME PULLOUTS
In the event of daytime appointments, we encourage parents to call the office in the morning or send a note with your child. We highly discourage calling minutes before you need to pick up your student, although we do acknowledge that there are sometimes special situations. Another reminder, anyone coming to pick up a student during school hours will need to come into the school office to sign the student in/out. This check-out procedure is essential for building security and student protection. If this person is not a parent/guardian and is not on your students’ contact list we will not release your student until a parent is contacted.
EXCUSING STUDENT ABSENCES
Please contact the office by 9:00am any day that your student is absent. For an absence to be excused, parents/guardians must contact the school within 48 hours of the absence. The attendance line phone number is 541-790-8325 and is available to leave a message 24 hours a day.
OPHELIA’S PLACE GIRLS GROUP
Spencer Butte is honored to be partnering with Ophelia’s Place, a non profit organization helping support girls in our community. They will be running three different Girl empowerment groups over the next three terms. This fall term we will be having a Young Amazing Women of Color group. If your student identifies as female and is a student of color and is interested in joining, please contact our school counselor, Margaret Albright at albright_m@4j.lane.edu or 541-790-8300. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
ORDER A YEARBOOK ONLINE
You can order your student’s yearbook online by going to the Spencer Butte Website https://spencerbutte.4j.lane.edu/ , choosing ‘Parents’, then ‘School Pay’.
VOLUNTEER BACKGROUND CHECKS – NEW LINK
We are excited to announce that parents and family members can once again join us inside the Spencer Butte building! We would love to have parent volunteers specifically for times like before school supervision, library throughout the day, and lunchtime supervision. Community and parent volunteers new to our school need to complete an online volunteer background check. NEW LINK! It was brought to our attention that the link from last week wasn’t working so here is the updated link for volunteering: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/Mzg4ODplbi1VUw==
