Site Council

Interested in helping improve student achievement at SBMS? The SBMS Site Council brings together a variety of voices (teachers, classified staff, parents/guardians, and administration) to work as a team to support the work of the school. DIfferent from a PTA/PTO, the site council examines school plans, data, and goals to provide feedback about school initiatives.

The duties of the SBMS Site Council include but are not limited to:

  • The development of plans to improve the professional growth of the school’s staff.
  • The improvement of the school’s instructional program.
  • The development and coordination of plans for the implementation of programs under Oregon’s Education Act for the 21st Century at the school.
  • The administration of grants-in-aid for the professional development of teachers and classified district employees.

SBMS Site Council Membership

The site council is composed of teachers, parents, classified employees and administrators or their designees as follows:

  • Not more than half of the members shall be teachers;
  • Not more than half of the members shall be parents or guardians of students attending that school. Parents/Guardians are selected by parents/guardians at the school. (4J Policy IFCA). At SBMS, the selection will be via vote at the first site council meeting.
  • At least one member shall be a classified employee;
  • One member shall be an administrator or designee.

In addition to the designated administrator, it is likely that there will be 1 teacher and 1 classified member on the site council. This means that we will be looking for 1-2 parents to serve on the site council.
