Spencer Butte staff will present information regarding transition activities for students going to high school next year, including dates of relevant meetings. We will also be available to answer specific questions regarding the process. This does not replace any of the upcoming meetings at the high schools and it is not required; it is simply an additional chance for parents to learn more.

ALL PARENT MEETING TUESDAY, JANUARY 14TH, 7:00PM

Does your kiddo struggle with following directions?  Do you ever feel like your child makes things harder than they need to be?  Are you interested in brain development?  Megan Postelwait, a speech language pathologist and parent of a 6th grade student at Spencer Butte, will present on executive function and communication on January 14th.  The presentation will include information about executive function, communication, and it’s impact across the classroom and home settings.  As well as some tips and tricks to support the development of executive function in your student.

WINTER WEATHER

Winter weather is on its way! Here is some key information families need to know.

When hazardous weather is a concern, decisions regarding schedule changes are made in the early morning, before school, when current weather conditions can be assessed. Decisions are made districtwide and are the same for every 4J school.

Our main concern is the safety of our students and staff. We also believe students and families are best served when schools are open. We will always do our best to make the best decision possible, taking into account all of the factors.

How To Find Out: If there is a change in the school schedule or bus routes, it will be announced in several ways, all normally before 6:30 a.m., including:

District website: A notice will be posted on this website’s homepage, 4j.lane.edu

District social media: A notice will be posted on the following social media channels:

Facebook page: facebook.com/4Jschools

Twitter accounts: @4Jschools and @4Jweather

Text-message alerts will be sent to Twitter subscribers who follow 4JWeather AND have their mobile phone number attached to their account.

Local News Media will share closure or delay information on their websites and broadcasts.

Information in Spanish: Información en español, 541-790-7738

NO NEWS = NO CHANGE. If there is a change in the school schedule or bus routes due to inclement weather, Eugene School District 4J will announce the change. On days when school is in session and on regular schedule, DO NOT expect the district to make an announcement.

Snow Routes: Parents of students who ride school buses that sometimes use snow routes have been informed of what to do when snow routes are in effect. Snow route information is available on the snow routes page.

LTD buses may also be delayed or detoured when there is ice or snow on the ground. Detour information will be posted on the LTD website, www.ltd.org, and publicized to local news media.

Delayed Starts and Early Dismissal: The district generally will avoid delayed starts and early dismissal due to weather. However, it is possible that unpredictable or sudden weather conditions will require such a decision to be made.

Delayed start times will not alter school dismissal times. If the delayed start occurs on a Friday, early release times will be the same as if there was no delay.

Parent Choice: On any day when inclement weather is a concern and school is in session, families are encouraged to consider road conditions in their areas and make their own decisions based on safety. Please call your school if your child will be absent. Parents’ individual decisions about school attendance for this reason will be honored.

INTERNATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Are you curious about global events? Do you enjoy considering different perspectives on world issues? Do you want to make a difference in your local and global community?
You might be interested in Eugene International High School!  Eugene IHS is an award-winning high school in international studies for students in grades 9-12.  Located at Churchill, Sheldon and South Eugene, the school is open via district lottery to any student who wishes to attend.  If you are curious about the world and want to be part of a close-knit community of learners in a unique environment that is both challenging and supportive, we hope you will consider Eugene IHS as your high school choice.

Admission into Eugene IHS is through the 4J District lottery process; all students, regardless of attendance area, must fill out an online 4J School Choice Lottery Application. 4J School Choice Lottery Applications for 2020-2021 will be available in January.  Go to the 4J District School Choice web page for school choice deadlines and applications: http://www.4j.lane.edu/choice.

IMPORTANT DATES for the 2020-2021 School Year:
January 1 – Online application period for 4J School Choice Lottery opens for in-district students
January 31 – Deadline to submit in-district 4J School Choice Lottery Applications

March 1 – Online application period for 4J School Choice Lottery opens for out-of-district students
April 1 – Deadline to submit out-of-district 4J School Choice Lottery Applications

Immersion students will be enrolled in Eugene IHS without the lottery process because they entered immersion through the lottery in elementary or middle school. However, immersion students do need to submit the Eugene IHS Enrollment Form to the Eugene IHS office at South or Sheldon by the January 31st deadline. This form will be included in a special mailing to immersion families.
