THIS WEEK’S COMMON iPAD/TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES ADDRESSED:
Apostrophe key not working:
There is nothing wrong with the ipad device, it needs to be set to ‘US’ in Keyboard settings.
How to fix: Go to settings, which is the silver GEAR icon.
Then to General then to Keyboard then to Hardware Keyboard then under English, from “Automatic,” change it to “US.”
If you can log into all other student accounts EXCEPT 4j Google (Docs)
- Go to https://password.4j.lane.edu/
- Enter your 4J password in the current password field and both of the new password fields and hit Update Password.
- This will then sync with our directory and push to Google. It could take up to an hour for the sync to go through.
IMPORTANT: Please make sure you have communicated with your teacher/advisor that you are having difficulty. They may be able to walk you through troubleshooting.
Unable to find the Zoom link? Look in multiple places. Some teachers have a zoom icon under the course name after you’ve clicked and entered into the class course. There is also a zoom tab along the left side of the screen once you’ve logged into Canvas – it could be there as well. All Zoom meetings are reoccurring (like Advisory Period), so the same link will work to click and find the meeting. (unless the instructor changes the link, in which case they would let you know in writing with a new link)
Make sure you don’t have windows that have popped up behind others. We have found some cases where a student has been waiting to be let into a meeting and there is a hidden box behind the Zoom Meeting window that needs to be clicked before it will allow you to attend.
SPENCER BUTTE IS A “GRAB AND GO” MEAL SITE
Free grab-and-go meals (breakfast and lunch served together) will be available for all 4J students and youth 18 years old and younger through December 2020. There are no income requirements and no application necessary. Children do not need to be present when picking up meals. Families can choose the location that is most convenient for them, regardless of where they live or attend school. The Spencer Butte Cafeteria serves meals Monday through Friday, 10:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
MATERIAL DISTRIBUTION OCTOBER 6TH, 7TH AND 8TH
We are in the process of putting together material bags for every Spencer Butte student. These bags will include classroom novels, student planners, math books (7th/8th grade), art supplies if necessary, musical instruments, yearbooks if you paid for them, etc. Pick up will take place for 6th graders on October 6th, 7th graders on October 7th and 8th graders on October 8th. If you have students in multiple grades you may pick up materials on one day, we encourage you to choose the lowest grade time slot. The specific times have yet to be determined, please stay tuned for more!
6TH GRADE OPEN HOUSE
The teachers of the core subjects for sixth grade (math, science, language arts, and social studies) invite you to attend a curriculum meeting on October 6th, at 6:30 pm. The sixth grade team want to make sure you understand how they are giving assignments, how students turn in assignments, and what instruction will look like in comprehensive distance learning. Each of the teachers will give a brief summary of what should be happening in and outside of class for your student. They will also give a brief overview of how grading will work for each class. We look forward to seeing you there.

HOW TO RETURN LIBRARY BOOKS
If your student has library books checked out from last year, you may return those on the same day you pick up this year’s materials (Oct. 6th, 7th or 8th) based upon grade level. Please contact Jenn Kotlarek (email@example.com) with any questions.
THANK YOU DONORS
We would like to extend a huge ‘Thank You’ to Sweet Life Patisserie for donating sweet treats for our teachers on the first day of school, Margaret Albright’s mother for her time, and anonymous parents for the Starbucks/Wandering Goat donation. Our teachers sincerely felt appreciated. If you would like to take part with any future Teacher Appreciation, please contact Salena Bowen.
