JAPANESE DRUMMING, FREE CLASSES

Waka Daiko is Eugene’s own Youth Taiko Drumming group. Waka Daiko combines tradition and innovation in taiko drumming. Their drummers bring the energy of youth to the practice of taiko, and bring the joy of drumming to life! Waka Daiko invites youth ages 8 through college to attend a free workshop this summer on Wednesdays, August 10th and 17th, at Willamette Leadership Academy (34024 B St, Goshen), from 6-7:30 pm. For youth under 16, parents must stay on-site during the workshop. Questions and RSVP to kate.m.downing@gmail.com

NETWORK CHARTER SCHOOL

If your student is an 8th-grader now and might enjoy or benefit from moving to a public alternative school next year, Network Charter School is a great, hands-on program that’s been active for many years. Small class sizes, trauma-informed, LGBTQ+ friendly. Students learn chef skills, take fishing classes at Alton Baker Park, and participate in hikes, community gardens and art projects. They also have core math and language arts classes, sometimes taught in a yoga studio or yurt. There will be a “meet & greet” for interested families on Tuesday, May 31st from 6-7pm at the main school site at 2550 Portland St.  Network does not currently have a waiting list for entering 9th graders, and families can start the enrollment process by calling 541-344-1229 and setting up a tour.
