Posted Date: 11/21/25 (04:54 PM)

A logo for Spencer Butte Middle School.

The logo features a stylized illustration of a school building situated on a stylized landscape with rolling hills and water.

The building is depicted in dark navy blue, with large, light-blue windows visible. Pine trees are outlined in light blue at the top of the image, behind the building. The hills and water are rendered in varying shades of light blue.

Below the illustration, the words "SPENCER BUTTE" are written in a clean, sans-serif font in dark navy blue. "Middle School" is written in a smaller, matching font below that. The overall color scheme is cool toned, using shades of blue and white.

Spartan Update

Week of 11/24/25

Picture of a school that captures the SBMS school campus area under a bright, clear sky. The architecture is characterized by mid-century modern design elements: slanted rooftops with clean lines, supported by slender columns, giving a sense of openness and functionality.

The foreground features a row of trees, some with lush green foliage and others displaying vibrant autumnal colors, suggesting a transition in seasons. These trees add natural warmth and breathing space to the otherwise structured environment. Alongside the trees, neatly kept bushes and a paved walkway create a welcoming atmosphere for students or visitors.

In the background, the school buildings are made of stucco and large glass windows, emphasizing both durability and the importance of natural light. The overall scene evokes a tranquil, well-maintained educational setting.
A stylized graphic banner for "November, National Native American Heritage Month" set against an abstract landscape of dark blue rolling hills with gold and brown accents under a night sky.
Close-up of a woman with shoulder-length wavy brown hair. She is wearing glasses with black frames and a gray, possibly knit, turtleneck-style sweater. The sweater has a slightly asymmetrical design at the neckline, with two visible round, light gray or beige buttons.

Note from Principal Paula Nolan

Thank you for being part of our SBMS community. We are looking forward to connecting with families and seeing students share their progress with you at conferences next week!

No School 11/24-11/28
Students do not come to school the week of 11/24. Monday and Tuesday are student led conferences and the remainder of the week is Thanksgiving break.

Not Too Late! Student-Led Conference Sign Up
Conferences at Spencer Butte Middle School are student-led. They are held in the large gym and students explain their work, progress, and goals to their families. Teachers are available for consultation, but conferences are not in teacher classrooms.

Each student-led conference will take about 15-20 minutes. If you have multiple students, you will want to sign up for slots in different times (ex: if you are attending two student-led conferences you would sign up for 10:00 AM and 10:15 AM).

Please click here or call 541-790-8300 to sign-up for a conference.

SBMS Food Drive Continues!
Our goal is to provide 25 food boxes for SBMS families for distribution before winter break. We would love to reach our goal. Thank you for contributing if you are able.

Food Box Request
If your family could benefit from receiving a food box for the break, please let us know by filling out this form. We will do our best to provide a food box to families that request one. If we are unable, we will notify families who make a request that we are unable to fulfill.

This service is available to any Spencer Butte family who may need a little extra food support, and all requests will be kept confidential.  We’re here to help, so please feel comfortable reaching out if a food box would be useful for your household.  Questions? Feel free to contact Heather Acharya in the Office, 541-790-8300

An infographic titled "Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives - DO YOURS WORK?" featuring an illustration of a cross-section of a two-story house. The graphic includes six key safety tips placed in different rooms of the house:

In the bathroom: "Approximately 80% of home fire deaths in Oregon happen in homes where working smoke alarms are not present."

In the hallway: "Test alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button."

In the bedroom: "Install smoke alarms inside bedrooms, in the sleeping areas outside of bedrooms, and on every level of the home."

In the living room: "If you rent, and do not have working smoke alarms, contact your landlord."

On the stairs: "Replace all smoke alarms that are 10 YRS OLD OR OLDER."

In the kitchen: "DO NOT remove batteries for nuisance alarms. Push hush button to temporarily silence alarm."

A banner at the bottom reads: "Working smoke alarms provide early warning, giving you more time to escape, and cut the risk of dying in a home fire in half."

The footer contains contact information for the American Red Cross (503-528-5783) and the Oregon State Fire Marshal (503-934-8228 or oregon.gov/osfm).
